Dubai Submerged in Floods as UAE Gets Over a Year's Worth of Rain in Hours

Record Floods Hit Dubai, UAE, after Heavy Rains

Cloud Seeding Claimed to Be Responsible for Record Rainfall

Chaos ensued in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the country witnessed its heaviest rainfall in decades. Record floods hit Dubai, submerging the city and causing widespread disruption.

According to reports, up to 10 inches of rain fell in some areas of Dubai, with the rainfall intensity reaching unprecedented levels. The UAE typically receives an average of approximately 947 millimeters (373 inches) of rain annually at Dubai International Airport, but this week's downpour exceeded that amount within a matter of hours.

The torrential rains began on Monday night and continued throughout Tuesday evening, leaving more than 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rain in their wake. The downpour paralyzed Dubai, the financial center of the Middle East, causing widespread flooding and traffic disruptions.

Meteorologists have attributed the heavy rainfall to a combination of factors, including cloud seeding operations. The UAE government has been conducting cloud seeding experiments to increase precipitation and provide water security. However, the extent to which cloud seeding contributed to the record rainfall is still under investigation.

The floods in Dubai have raised concerns about the city's infrastructure and its preparedness for extreme weather events. The UAE government has pledged to investigate the root causes of the flooding and implement measures to minimize its impact in the future.
